The country’s agriculture minister, Jan Ardanowski, made the request for financial aid during a meeting in Brussels with Phil Hogan, the European Commissioner for Agriculture, according to Poland’s public radio broadcaster.

The meeting came ahead of a gathering of EU agriculture ministers.

Poland has not specified how much financial help it wants because it is still assessing losses to farmers.

The agriculture ministry in Warsaw said last week that more than 66,000 farms have been hit by drought amid scorching temperatures this year, according to Polish Radio’s IAR news agency.
