Poland will receive around EUR 18.9 billion in funds for direct payments to farmers and EUR 8.2 billion in rural development funds from EU coffers from 2021 to 2027 if the plan unveiled by the European Commission is approved by member states, the PAP news agency reported.

The EU executive on Friday proposed a new, slimmer budget for the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy, according to PAP.

Poland would see its pool of direct payment funds reduced by about 1 percent and it would receive roughly 25 percent less funds for rural development under the proposal, PAP reported.

The European Commission earlier this week proposed less cohesion policy funds for Poland under the bloc’s 2021-2027 budget, according to public broadcaster Polish Radio.

The proposed cuts in the new EU budget are in part due to the impending exit of the United Kingdom from the bloc and new spending priorities such as defence policy and migration, Polish Radio has reported.
