Polish airline LOT orders three new jets in expansion drive

Poland’s state-owned airline LOT has ordered three new 294-seater Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner jets as part of an expansion drive, according to reports.

The new planes will enable the carrier to increase the number of long-haul flights to the United States and Asia, the gazetaprawna.pl online newspaper reported on Tuesday.
With the new additions, the Polish national carrier will expand its fleet of Dreamliners to 15, one of the largest numbers among air carriers in Europe, the website said.
Two of the new planes will be delivered in May next year, while the third one will arrive in Poland in October 2019, Polish Radio's IAR news agency reported.
At the end of last year, LOT said it aimed to transport up to 10 million passengers in 2018, up from 6.8 million in 2017.
The carrier also announced plans to offer a number of new destinations and increase the frequency of flights.
In mid-May, LOT is scheduled to launch direct flights from Warsaw to Singapore, a key transit point for global travellers, including those headed for destinations such as Australia and New Zealand, according to the IAR news agency.
The carrier is also thinking of launching a direct service to India, IAR said.
Each new plane is an opportunity to launch one or two new destinations, gazetaprawna.pl quoted LOT spokesman Adrian Kubicki as saying.
