Nearly half medium-sized Polish towns face big problems: report

Nearly half of 255 medium-sized towns in Poland are at risk of socio-economic collapse, research by the Polish Academy of Sciences has found.

Problems include declining populations, with young and better educated people in short supply, growing social problems and the collapse of social ties, the PAP news agency reported, citing the study.

People in such towns also faces long journeys to work, the agency added.

Medium-sized towns were defined as those with over 20,000 residents but below provincial capital in status.
