According to data released by the Office of Rail Transport (UTK), the number of passengers increased by 5.1 percent in the first half of the year compared to the same period in 2016.
It is the best result since the first half of 2008, when over 145 million people were carried by PKP trains.
Also, the statistics showed that the number of passengers travelling on PKP exceeded 25 million each month this year, except for February.
Experts, however, forecast that PKP will see a drop in the number of passengers in the second half of this year due to modernisation carried out at some of Poland's major rail routes. The projects are expected to cause delays and longer journey times.
