Poland's LNG supply unaffected by situation in Qatar: PGNiG

The political situation in Qatar has not affected Polish liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies, the deputy CEO of Poland’s gas monopoly PGNiG, Maciej Woźniak, has said.

“I am not commenting the political situation in Qatar,” Woźniak said, adding that there is no reason to be concerned about supplies.
Saudi Arabia cut off diplomatic ties with Qatar on Monday and the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Bahrain followed suit, accusing Qatar of supporting Al-Qaida and the Muslim Brotherhood.
Saudi Arabia and Egypt blocked all transport links to Qatar, affecting supplies.
But Qatar denied the accusations, saying: “The campaign of incitement is based on lies that had reached the level of complete fabrications”.
PGNiG and Qatargas in 2009 signed a deal for 1.5 billion cubic metres of liquefied natural gas annually as Poland aimed to lessen its energy dependence on Russia.
The first shipment of gas was expected around mid-2014 but it wasn’t until the end of 2015 that the Świnoujscie LNG terminal in northern Poland became operational. (vb)
