In a report published on Tuesday, the agency predicted that the public finance sector deficit in both 2017 and 2018 would be 3.0% of GDP. It had previously estimated the deficit would stand at 3.2% this year and 2.8% of GDP next year.

The agency said that in addition to stronger private consumption boosted by an improvement on the labour market, it expected that investment would pick up this year because of greater use of EU funds.

It added that it estimated the net inflow of EU funds in 2017 would amount to EUR 6.9 billion, or 1.5% of GDP.
