Polish PZU insurer plans to axe almost 1,000 jobs

Poland's PZU, the largest insurer in the region, plans to lay off 956 staff as part of a major restructuring programme.

“The boards of PZU SA and PZU Życie SA have decided to start a downsizing process. It will concern all functional areas of the company. The process is scheduled to begin on 24 March and end on 17 December 17, 2017,” the company wrote in a press statement on Thursday.
Bartłomiej Litwińczuk, PZU board member said that the changes are in line with a restructuring strategy adopted by the company for 2016-2020.
PZU has recently agreed to take over a 32.8 percent stake in Poland' Bank Pekao from Italy's Unicredit for a total amount of PLN 10.6 bln. (rg)
