Economic stability and growth important for 2017: Deputy PM

Deputy Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said those tasks would secure funding for the government’s social, family and development programmes.

Morawiecki added the government will likely manage to keep the budget deficit in check at under three percent of GDP.

He was speaking at a joint press conference following Prime Minister Beata Szydło’s review of the finance and development ministries, which Morawiecki heads.

Morawiecki and Szydło said that the finance and development ministries would in 2017 work on dozens of changes to support business.

“Pro-development and investment projects which will be brought to life this year, and which have significant importance to achieving the Strategy for Responsible Development designed by [deputy] Prime Minister Morawiecki,” Szydło said.

Under the Strategy for Responsible Development designed by Morawiecki, over PLN 1 trillion will be injected into the economy over the next 25 years. PM Szydło said on Monday that the plan is expected to “give equal opportunities to all regions… which today have financial problems”.

During Monday's review, Szydło also set her deputy the task of further limiting tax fraud, since laws to crack down on cheats, introduced by the current government, have already beefed-up state coffers.

Szydło is reviewing government ministries and setting out tasks for 2017. She has already met ministers for defence, the interior, health, labour and social policy, justice, as well as the head of secret services, as she reviews the work of government ministers, just over a year after taking office.
