The employee count in private businesses stood at 5,798,900 last month.

Meanwhile, the average monthly gross salary in the business sector climbed 2.7 percent year on year to PLN 4,635 (USD 1,130, EUR 1,060), the Central Statistical Office said.

Analysts interviewed by the PAP news agency had expected private-sector pay packets to increase by 3.8 percent. Some said the 2.7 percent rise was disappointing.

According to Krzysztof Inglot of the Work Service employment agency, data from the end of last year confirms that demand for workers is increasing in Poland, but a quicker growth in wages is still on the horizon.
