New French laws will bypass EU rules on employing Polish construction workers, the IAR news agency has said.

Under the new laws, foreigners will have to carry photo ID which will carry information about the nature of their employment.
This is meant to bypass EU rules, which allow foreigners to work in France on contracts of up to two years, during which time social security is paid in the worker’s native country.
The new laws are supposed to stop this practice, which is bringing losses to the French treasury.
The laws will mainly affect the building industry, which employs some 300,000 non-French workers, most of them from Poland, Romania, Portugal and Spain. (vb)
