Poland’s National Centre for Research and Development will spend PLN 116 million (EUR 26 million) to subsidise 38 projects in the Polish video game sector.

“We want to modernise the Polish economy […] especially in the areas where our intellectual and creative potential is strongest,” Gowin said.

He added that the sector is one of Poland’s most innovative and rapidly growing industries.

The PAP news agency said that largest amount will go to CD Projekt, one of the largest players in the industry, and developer of “The Witcher”, a computer game based on a novel by Polish fantasy writer Andrzej Sapkowski. The game has proved a worldwide hit. (tf/rg)
