An expansion of Katowice Airport, estimated at a value of around 400 million zloty (100 million euro), is set to get under way at the airport’s site in Pyrzowice.
The development will see the construction of a new runway, taxiways, as well as aircraft hangars.
Katowice Airport’s transport infrastructure is being developed as part of an on-going project to improve the airport by 2016, by which time it will have gained an extra area amounting to 300,000 square metres.
Katowice Airport reported a rate of 8 percent passenger growth year-on-year in May 2011, serving almost 207,000 passengers last month. It is currently Poland’s third busiest airport, after Krakow and Warsaw. (jb)
