The typical owner of a major, private Polish firm is likely to be an entrepreneur around 58 years old who started from scratch, achieving success through hard work and business acumen, according to a new report.

The report by HSBC bank and accounting, tax, and advisory firm Grant Thornton is based on a study of the owners of the 100 largest Polish private sector companies.
Tomasz Wróblewski, a Grant Thornton managing partner, said: “The vast majority of the current generation of entrepreneurs is a generation of business pioneers.
“They had nothing handed to them. They fought for everything. Each of them at the start of their path had only an idea and enthusiasm. That was enough to stand at the helm of mighty companies today."
The report investigated how Polish business leaders compare to top entrepreneurs from other countries.
The typical Polish entrepreneur is the author of his or her own success, while many of the wealthiest people around the world built their success on the achievements of others, for example after inheriting a fortune, the report says. (pk)
