"Confidence in the financial market is of the utmost importance, and confidence in the capital market is also very important,” Zaleska told reporters.

“If both institutional and individual investors see the capital market as secure, as something that can benefit them in the long term, that will be beneficial not only from the point of view of these investors, but also in terms of the development of the economy as a whole,” she added.

Zaleska said it was too early to talk about what her first decision as head of the Warsaw Stock Exchange would be.

Zaleska, 47, is the first woman to head the bourse since it was formed almost 25 years ago.

After appointing her, an Extraordinary General Meeting of the Warsaw Stock Exchange dismissed four members of the supervisory board of the bourse and appointed five new members.

The Warsaw Stock Exchange is the largest bourse in Central and Eastern Europe. The State Treasury is a majority stake holder, owning 51 percent. (pk/rg)
