"After many months of restless, turbulent events, today the time has come to steer the Stock Exchange back into calm waters," Treasury Minister Dawid Jackiewicz said at a press conference at the bourse.
The WSE is expected to appoint its new chief 12 January. Zaleska is to replace Paweł Tamborski, who resigned from his post in December, saying he did not want to be dragged into “political games”.
Zaleska said that heading "one of the most important financial market institutions in Poland" is both an honour and a challenge.
"For the further development of the Polish capital market, what is needed, among other things, is cooperation and listening to people representing capital markets," she added.
The Warsaw Stock Exchange is the largest bourse in Central and Eastern Europe. The State Treasury is a majority stake holder, owning 51 percent. (pk/rg)
