The sale of Sikorsky, the owner of the Polish PZL-Mielec plant, to Lockheed Martin is a significant move in the arms market, said Defence Minister Tomasz Siemoniak.

He admitted that he is counting on a good working cooperation with the new owner.

On Monday, US aeronautics firm Lockheed Martin Aviation announced that it will purchase the Sikorsky aircraft company for USD 9 billion.

The deal also involves the PZL-Mielec factory in Poland which produces the iconic Black Hawk helicopter.

In recent weeks, the factory has been forced to downsize due to financial difficulties.

On Tuesday, Minister Siemoniak admitted that he received the information with great pleasure.

“I note with satisfaction that this is a purchase made a very well-known company, which is already present in Poland as a partner of the Defence Ministry, and this gives us very good prospects for further cooperation,” Siemoniak said. (rg)
