The hotels, which are currently run by the state-owned WAM Hotel Group, take in historic sites such as Krakow's Hotel Royal, as well as more recently established venues.

“The Treasury Ministry is analysing the bids at the moment,” ministry spokesman Emil Górecki told the Polish Press Agency (PAP).

“We are not able to determine the completion date of the procedure,” he noted, adding that it is not clear how many bidders will continue in the negotiations.

The bidders include one company from Luxembourg, while the remaining four are headquartered in Poland.

Meanwhile, conservative opposition party Law and Justice is opposing the sell-off.

MP Andrzej Adamczyk has claimed that his party is not against privatisation per se, but has described the WAM sale as a “savage, chaotic sell-off of national assets.” (nh)
