As the Polish Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK) explained on Monday, a long-term loan from the EIB of EUR 550 million will enable the construction of several sections of the S5 expressway, leading from the A1 motorway near Grudziądz, through Bydgoszcz to Wrocław.

"The total length of sections of the expressway financed by the EIB loan is 162.5 km; this runs between the towns of Nowe Marzy, Bydgoszcz and Mielno and between Wronczyn and Radomicko," BGK said.

The EIB also granted a EUR 250-million long-term loan for the construction of the southern section of the ring road between Puławska and Lubelska streets in Warsaw, measuring 18.6 km.

"Part of the EIB loan will also finance the construction of a new bridge over the Vistula river, which will relieve traffic on the eight bridges in the capital.

The construction of the ring road and the bridge is designed to streamline the transit traffic around Warsaw," the state-owned bank added. (rg)
