Poles unable to escape their employers during the summer?

As the summer holidays begin a survey by Randstad has shown that 60 percent of Poles have an employer who expects them to be available by phone and email during the holidays, well above the global average.

The quarterly Workmonitor by the Randstad Research Institute, conducted across 34 countries, has indicated that overall 47 percent of respondents felt that this was the case, with Poland ranked in 6th place.
In Poland the eldest workers, aged 55-67, had the highest proportion of respondents expected to be available during the holidays, at 70 percent.
Poland also performed badly in another category, as 63 percent of respondents in the country claimed that their employer expects them to be available outside regular office hours compared to an overall average of 57 percent for all countries.
By gender 70 percent of Polish male respondents said that this was true, compared to 53 percent of Polish females.
However regardless of the demand for holiday contact 66 percent of Poles surveyed were still able to say that they are able to let go of work easily while on holiday to relax.
The survey was conducted in May and June with 15,000 respondents, all of whom were aged 18-67 and work a minimum of 24 hours a week. In Poland itself 814 people were surveyed. (sl/rg)
