In 2013, Poles consumed 2 million litres of cider, but a year later that level had jumped to 10 million litres.

Tomasz Kolecki-Majewicz, who has been awarded the title of 'Best Sommelier of Poland' several times, believes that Poland could soon catch up with countries where the drink has been on the market for longer.

Over the coming years, cider will become one of the most significant parts of Poland's alcohol market,” he claimed im an interview with the Newseria agency.

We estimate that approximately 30-50 million litres [per year] is a level that we will reach in a fairly short period of time.

He added that Poland might eventually match France, which is currently Europe's second biggest consumer of alcohol after the UK. (nh)
