The Gdańsk-Sopot-Gdynia conurbation is Uber's third location in Poland.

The company already has about 200,000 customers in Poland, servicing the Warsaw and Kraków markets.

The daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna reports that the US start-up is worth over USD 40 billion.

In Poland the company has grown 16-fold since it started. The average waiting time in Warsaw is just under five minutes, in Prague about 5.6 minutes and in New York 6.3 minutes, the daily reports.

Uber, headquartered in San Francisco, develops, markets and operates the Uber mobile app, which allows consumers to submit a trip request which is then routed to sharing economy drivers.

The service is available in 58 countries and 300 cities worldwide. (jh)
