The Infrastructure and Development Ministry reported that in the 2007-2013 period about 106,000 contracts were signed for EU financial support, for a figure of about PLN 410.4 billion. The ministry said on its website that up to 14 June, 301,700 formal applications had been submitted.

In the budgetary period 2014-2020 Poland has at its disposal EUR 82.5 billion (about PLN 335 billion) from the EU’s cohesion funds. In the previous period it was about EUR 68 billion.

In the new EU budgetary period funds will cover those areas that are most likely to boost economic growth, increase employment and modernise the economy.

Funds will go into scientific research, road building, railways, public transport, business development and broadband internet infrastructure.

About 40 percent of cohesion funds will be managed by Voivodship-level local government, that is EUR 31 billion. (jh)
