A survey has indicated that Poles are more against joining the eurozone than ever before, with 70 percent opposing the adoption of the single currency.

According to the poll by the Centre for Public Opinion Research (CBOS), only 25 percent of those surveyed were in favour of adopting the euro, and only 8 percent of those were 'decidedly' so.

Of those negatively disposed towards the euro, 44 percent said they were 'decidedly' against it, and 24 percent were 'rather' against it.

In spite of the reluctance of Poles to embrace the euro, strong public support remains for continued membership in the European Union (Poland joined in 2004).

As much as 84 percent of respondents are in favour of Poland's EU membership, according to the CBOS poll, while 10 percent were against. (nh)
