“We need to increase production, and this means that we will employ an additional 900 people at our plant in Poznań,” said Jens Ocksen, the CEO of VW in the western Polish city of Poznań.
“This is also good news for the region. Such a number of new jobs means we are basically creating a new medium-sized company,” Ocksen added.
The Poznań factory produces the best-selling Caddy mini-van model, and currently employs a staff of around 7,000.
The CEO pointed out that the automotive industry is struggling with spare capacity, and many production lines around the continent are not working at full volume.
“We are pleased that in our case, it is different,” Ocksen said.
The German carmaker, Europe’s largest, is planning to roll out 174,000 automobiles from its plant in Poznań this year, slightly less than in 2014, it said in early March. (rg)
