The EU’s top executive body has come up with a single index of digital development as part of its ongoing effort to produce a digital-market strategy for the 28-nation bloc.
The index weighs such factors, as availability of communication technology (or the reliability, speed and spread of broadband internet connections), degree of utilisation of available technologies (from email to online shopping) and presence or absence of the so-called e-administration procedures.
Going by these criteria, Denmark is the EU’s leader with a score of 0.67 (on a scale from 0 to 1) ahead of Sweden, the Netherlands and Finland (all over 0.60).
Poland’s score of 0.31 puts it ahead of only Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy and Croatia. (an)
