FinMin Szczurek: this year's GDP growth close to that of 2014

                    Economic growth in Poland in 2015 will be similar to the 3.3 percent recorded in 2014, Polish Finance Minister Mateusz Szczurek said on Wednesday.

                         Minister Szczurek explained that the current pace of growth is less than it was a year ago. "Last year we almost managed to double economic growth. This time, we expect similar growth to what we saw in 2014,” Szczurek told Polish Radio.
He also pointed to the improving situation on the labour market. “The first data on the labour market this year was encouraging. We are observing a decline in the unemployment rate and employment growth when the data is seasonal adjustment,” Szczurek explained.
“For the first time in some time, not only is the total unemployment rate […] well below the EU average, but youth unemployment is lower than the EU average,” the minister said.

According to data by Eurostat, Polish unemployment in January amounted to 8.0 percent while the EU average stood at 9.8 percent.
According to figures published by the Central Statistical Office, in 2014, Polish GDP growth rate was 3.3 percent. (rg)
