Analysts put the growth in imports down to better domestic demand, with growth expected to reach double digits last year as compared to previous years, where growth in Chinese toy imports hovered around 3-4 percent.
Marek Jankowski from the Polish Toy Association told Dziennik Gazeta Prawna that “higher imports are also due to the dynamic development of chain stores, [which are opening] new shops and supermarkets”, and it is these stores which are importing the most goods from Asia.
According to the daily, Chinese manufacturers are also looking for business due to competition from India and Taiwan, with the result that they are prone to accepting smaller orders, not necessarily by the container-load. (jb)
