Airbus Helicopters has opened a research and development centre in the central Polish city of Łódź.

Poland is a growing market for aviation technology, Chief Executive Guillaume Faury said, while the postindustrial city of Łódź, some 100 miles west of Warsaw, has been selected for its abundance of engineering skills.

The centre will employ around 100 engineers. Their research will focus on helicopter propulsion systems for both military and civilian uses.

The centre is Airbus’s fourth in Europe after France, Germany and Spain. With 54 helicopters in exploitation across Poland, Airbus is market leader in the country. (an)
