Coalminer JSW names interim CEO

The Polish listed but state-controlled coalminer Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa (JSW) named an interim chief executive in the wake of the incumbent’s resignation under trade union pressure.

The supervisory board of Europe’s largest producer of coking coal tapped Vice-President Jerzy Borecki as a stand-in CEO, the company said in a press release.

Jarosław Zagórski, his predecessor, stepped down on 17 February as a condition for the suspension of a strike, blaming an “unprecedented campaign of hate and aggression” by the unions.

Zagórski thus became the third mine CEO to lose his job to union pressure in recent months. (an)
