The move comes after the railway freight operator announced that it would implement the use of the machines in a heightened security effort towards the end of 2014.

PKP Cargo has announced that the use of drones to increase the security of its trains is still in the test phase. However, the images gained from the drone were clear enough to pass on to the police, which arrested the train robbers.

The move to employ drones comes as losses incurred by coal theft from PKP Cargo’s trains amounted to over PLN 4 million in some 900 thefts over the course of the first ten months in 2014. (jb)
