Polish competition watchdog UOKiK has handed a fine of PLN 4.2 million to Canadian Bombardier, which markets itself as “the largest international rail transportation investor in Poland,” according to its website.

Meanwhile French Thales was fined PLN 759,000. The companies came under the radar for an alleged tender scheme in 2011 worth over PLN 500 million.

The tender was for the modernisation of the rail network between Warsaw’s Okęcie airport and the city of Radom, said Grzegorz Materna, Director of UOKiK’s Competition Protection Department.

“Bombardier strongly refutes those claims. Antitrust behaviour is not condoned by Bombardier and contravenes our code of ethics,” Bombardier spokesman Marc Laforge told Reuters. (rg)
