Poland’s smartphone market is Europe’s sixth-largest with 12.7 million users, according to a report by a market research firm.

As many as 44 percent of Poles over the age of 15 now own a smartphone, up from less than 12 percent in 2011, eMarketer said in a press release. This implies roughly half of all mobile-phone holders in Poland own smartphones.

The proportion is expected to rise to roughly two-thirds over the next four years. The research firm foresees 20.8 million smartphone holders in 2018.

In terms of absolute subscriber numbers Poland is the world’s 24th largest smartphone market.

Polish consumers favour cheaper models with 70 percent of smartphones costing less than PLN 1,000 (EUR 238). (an)
