Two potential bidders have called for such an extension. The original deadline is 28 November.
One of the companies that asked for an extension is US-based Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, producer of the Black Hawk helicopter.
It had earlier threatened to withdraw from the tender altogether, claiming that it was unable to fulfil the tender requirements.
“Our lawyers are checking the motion made by the bidder,” Janusz Walczak from the Ministry of Defence told Polish Radio.
He did not specify when a decision would be announced, but said that the ministry will make it before the original deadline.
The value of the tender announced earlier this year is estimated at 8 billion zloty (some 1.9 billion euro).
Apart from Sikorsky, there are two other participants - French Airbus Helicopters and Agusta Westland PZL Swidnik, which is the Polish arm of the Italian defence industry group. (kw)
