“It's high time to revise our TV formula for the diaspora,” Sikorski told senators.
The new channel, TV Polska, will be primarily aimed at ethnic Poles in Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania, although he noted that it is “for anyone interested in Poland and Polishness.”
Sikorski added that ethnic Poles in Belarus have the most difficult situation at present.
“Enduring problems are the lack of consent for the legal activity of the democratically elected authorities of the Union of Poles in Belarus, and limitations made on the development of education in Polish,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sikorski noted that unlike TVP Polonia, programmes made by TV Polska will not be broadcast in Poland itself. (nh)
