Speaking at a furniture factory in Wagrowiec, western Poland, Piechocinski said that “I have just finished talks, and there will be investments in new factories to the tune of 1 billion euro a year.”
Piechocinski, who heads the junior coalition partner Polish Peasants Party, told the PAP news agency that during talks, IKEA informed of their plans to spend 2.5 billion euros annually on investments globally.
IKEA representatives said that they are intersted in Polish timber, as well as energy from renewable sources which would be used in production processes. The Swedes also hinted that they are also interested in producing decorative elements in Poland.
Deputy PM Piechocinski added that Poland is currently the fourth largest producer of furniture worldwide, and the largest exporter in Europe. (jb)
