Piechocinski made the statement on Friday, saying that Fiat is to announce the official decision at the beginning of May.
“I have met Fiat representatives, and at the beginning of May there will be some very good news not only for the Tychy factory workers, but for the whole [automotive] sector,” Piechocinski said.
Fiat is to reveal its strategic plans at the beginning of May. “We expect that the primary decisions taken by Fiat will see the factory in Tychy become the jewel in the crown for all Fiat factories worldwide,” Piechocinski said.
The Fiat factory in Tychy, located in the Upper Silesian agglomeration, saw one of its best performance results in 2013, generating over 291.3 million zloty (around 73 million euro) in profits.
The factory employs some 3,340 people after restructuring saw 1,450 workers laid off at the beginning of 2013, as well as a change to two-shift production, not three as was in place earlier. (jb)
