The talks come as Poland prepares to invest 130 billion zloty (30.9 billion euro) in its armed forces over the coming years.

EADS is the parent company of Airbus and Airbus Military, and the latter manufactures a range of military aircraft.

Jacek Sonta, spokesman for the Ministry of Defence, has indicated that the government is considering buying a 1-2 percent stake in the group.

“At the moment, it's difficult to determine whether such a solution will be favourable for us, but we are considering it,” Sonta told the Dziennik Gazeta Prawna newspaper.

EADs is partly owned by the French, German and Spanish governments, with the former two holding 12 percent stakes, while Spain has a 4 percent stake.

The Ministry of Defence has declined to make any further comment. (nh)
