Labour minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said on Monday that in total, the number of Poles registered as unemployed fell 253,000 over the last seven months.
During the same period last year, when seasonal work buoyed up the labour market, the number of unemployed fell by 189,000.
“This result, combined with further positive signals concerning the economy, offers hope that the worst period for the labour market is already behind us,” he claimed.
The drop in September was only fractional however (just 900 people). The largest decrease in the number of unemployed was in the southern Malopolska region. (nh/pg)
