"For the sake of customer safety due to the tense political situation in Egypt, as well as to adhere to the recommendations of the Foreign Ministry, we are cancelling trips organised by Rainbow Tours, and those under the under the brand name BeeFee, from 22 August,” one of Poland's largest travel groups has announced.

Sun&Fun Holidays and Exim Tours have also said that they have suspended organising packages to Egypt.

"We want to emphasize that we have made this difficult decision because the safety of our customers is paramount to us,” says a statement by Exim Tours.

The tour agencies are offering to replace packages already booked with other destinations in Croatia and elsewhere free of charge.

The foreign ministry said last week that around 12,000 Poles were on package holidays in Red Sea coast resorts, one of the most popular holiday destinations for Poles.

Earlier this week, the ministry again urged Poles to refrain from the travelling to Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh, Taba, Nuweiba and Dahab.

German travel groups TUI and Thomas Cook said on 16 August that they are cancelling all holidays to Egypt until mid-September.

“TUI is cancelling all trips to Egypt up until and including September 15 in response to the [German] foreign ministry’s latest assessment of the situation there,” the group said in a statement. (pg)
