'El Saghira' sold for half million euros at Pride of Poland auction

The most expensive horse sold at the prestigious 44th 'Pride of Poland' auction of Arabian horses at Janow Podlaski, Lublin province, south east Poland, went for 500,000 euros.

'El Saghira' is a six-year-old grey mare was raised in Poland's biggest stud farm located in Michałowice.

The horse has already won many titles at shows and championships, including being judged among the 10 best mares in the world during thechampionships at Salon Cheval in Paris in 2012.

Buyers from United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Austria, Great Britain, Sweden, USA, Kuwait and Poland bid for 27 mares at the weekend, with the average price for a mare reaching just under 100,000 euros.

The annual auction at Janow Podlaski has been running since 1970 and was given the title 'Pride of Poland' since 2001. (pg)
