At a press conference on Tuesday, European Commission spokesman on agriculture Roger Waite said the amount must be returned after mismanagement of the so-called Land Parcel Identification System, a scheme to identify land use for a given country within the EU claiming funds from the CAP.
Waite said the infringement covers the period 2007 to 2008.
The commission can demand funds be paid back to the EU budget in cases of non-compliance with EU rules or inadequate control procedures on agricultural expenditure. (pg)
