Customs officials have seized around 1.5 million counterfeit condoms after a shipment from China aroused suspicion in the port city of Gdynia, northern Poland.

According to officials, the condoms were due to be dispatched to a firm in Poland's central Masovia region, with a value estimated at 50,000 euros (200,000 zloty).

The packaging and brand name of the contraceptives appeared to be identical to those of a Czech condom producer.

After talks with the Customs Chamber in Gdynia, as well as a legal firm representing the Czech company in Poland, the shipment of 500 cartons of the condoms was removed to a warehouse in the city.

The current case marks the second seizure this year of counterfeit condoms from China, after a smaller shipment was intercepted in February. (nh/pg)
