Eight Polish firms make Forbes top public companies list

Eight Polish entries made it into the Forbes Global 2000 list, which assesses the biggest public companies in the world.

The ranking published by weekly business magazine Forbes put the PKO BP Bank at the highest-placed Polish concern, in 580th position.

Forbes rates the enterprises based on four categories: sales, profits, assets and market value.

The other Polish entries in the Global 2000 list were oil refiner and petrol retailer PKN Orlen (651st), power company PGE (681st), insurer PZU (766th), copper miner KGHM (785th), gas company PGNiG (786th), power company Tauron (1480th) and oil company Grupa Lotos (1826th).

Out of 63 countries surveyed, the United States had the most companies on the list (543), followed by Japan (251) and China (136).

China's ICBC bank took the number one spot for the first time, dislodging Exxon Mobil. (nh)
