A statement was placed on the airline's web site at around 22.00 CET, Thursday night, saying: “Please be advised that from 27 July, all regular flights, and the sale of tickets, are suspended until further notice.”
The airline says all passengers on cancelled flights will be personally notified by the company's Call Center as to how to receive a refund.
Earlier, OLT Express, which is owned by the Amber Gold Group, suspended flights on its ATR fleet, as “this is a condition of an investor who is interested in buying shares in OLT Express”.
“We will be looking, especially, at the financial situation of the carrier and what the company plans to do,” says Civil Aviation Authority spokeswoman Katarzyna Krasnodębska.
She added that OLT Express has still not provided auditor approved financial statements for 2011.
Eurolot, owned by the LOT Polish national carrier, has announced that it will be taking passengers who have bought tickets for OLT Express flights if similar routes are available.
In May, an OLT Express Airbus A320 flying from Warsaw to the Red Sea coast in Egypt was forced to emergency land in Sofia, Bulgaria after fire was seen on aboard. None of the passengers, who had to leave the plane on emergency chutes, was injured.
OLT Express has been in operation since 2001, originally under the name of Jet Air.
From winter 2005/06 until mid-2007 the airline operated domestic services for LOT Polish Airlines on low density routes.
Jet Air’s regional feeder partnership with LOT ended in 2007 and the carrier began to operate services under its own name.
In February 2012, the airline, based in Gdansk, and known for giving away free food and drink on board, began operating 10 domestic routes in Poland and flew internationally from April. (pg)
