Iggy Pop and the Stooges have been confirmed as one of the headliners of this summer's OFF Festival in Katowice, southern Poland.

The gig was confirmed on Monday on the festival's official website, with organisers revealing that the group was coming “in response to requests from their loyal fans.”

Festival organisers quipped that “the pioneers and masters of punk rock” will show the younger generation “how it's really done.”

Iggy Pop, one of the most charismatic frontmen in U.S. rock, is in fact due to celebrate his 65th birthday this April, but his prodigous energy seems largely undimmed.

Other hot names already confirmed for the Katowice event include Death in Vegas, Black Face and Suicide.

The moving force behind the festival is Artur Rojek of Polish alternative rock band Myslovitz, who founded the event in 2006.

The festival has a new spring in its step this year, having won the award best medium-sized event at the 3rd European Festival Awards earlier this month.

OFF Festival 2012 will take place between 3-5 August. Tickets are already on sale. (nh)
