The pacification of the Wujek Coal Mine in Katowice, Silesia, took place just three days after martial law was declared by the communist authorities on 13 December 1981.

A DVD with 3D images related to the incident was distributed on Tuesday by Dziennik Zachodni, Silesia's largest regional newspaper, accompanied by a complimentary pair of 3D spectacles.

Nine miners were killed after riot police and police reservists opened fire on those involved in the strike.

The pacification endures as one of the most infamous incidents during the martial law period, which lasted from 13 December 1981 until July 1983.

As part of the 'Week in Three Dimensions” cycle, Dziennik Zachodni will be publishing some photographs related to the massacre that have never been released before. (nh/pg)
