The event, which ended with a prizewinners’ gala concert on Saturday, is dedicated to the famous Polish soprano Ada Sari.

Gołaszewska is a student of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.

Karauda graduated from the Music School in Łódź and The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. His honours include First Prize in The Music in the Vale Young Singer of the Year competition in Cardiff. He has sung with the English Touring Opera and the Welsh National Opera.

Other prizewinners include Polish mezzo-soprano Elwira Janasik, Irish soprano Sara Shine and Ukrainian baritone Danylo Matviienko.

Eighty young singers from 13 countries took part in the event.

The Ada Sari Vocal Competition was founded in 1985 to honour the memory of the great Polish soprano, whose spectacular career included performances in some of the most prestigious venues in Europe, the United States and South America.

Ada Sari died in 1968, at the age of 82.
