Measles cases skyrocketing: report

A total of 678 people were diagnosed with measles in Poland between January 1 and April 15, up from 34 such cases in the same period of 2018, experts have said.

The National Health Institute reported that 339 Poles came down with the condition last year, and 63 in 2017.
The World Health Organisation recorded 112,000 measles cases in 170 countries in the first quarter of 2019, an increase of nearly 300 percent from the same period last year.
Experts say the surge in Poland in recent months has been in part due to a measles epidemic in neighbouring Ukraine, which has seen problems with vaccinations amid an armed conflict in its eastern regions.
Meanwhile, the so-called anti-vax movement in Poland has led to fewer children being vaccinated, according to reports.
