Verses by authors from 20 European countries will appear around the Polish capital as part of an annual project called Poems in the City.

On Chmielna Street in central Warsaw, a special armchair will be on hand to encourage passers-by to pause, sit down comfortably, read a poem and ponder the meaning of love.

The initiative, which runs until the end of April, is being held by the Warsaw chapter of the European Union National Institutes for Culture network and by Warsaw City Hall.

The project showcases the work of poets from countries including Poland, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Spain, Romania, Ukraine, Italy, Hungary and Britain.
